I can truly say that I love being in this position. Of course, there are hard times. And when the ministry is hard, it always effects family life. Thanks for this post! What a great reminder to pray for our dads.
GET PDF OF THIS BLOG POST. It’s one of the most yucky things that any youth worker gets to navigate. Two of the students in your youth group are dating.
William Duncan Saunders, 15, died of a skull fracture and ruptured aorta when he was roughly flung from a bed during an incident variously described as horseplay unrelated to hazing and hazing. He was a member of Alpha Delta Phi fraternity, but his chapter was not implicated in his demise. Here is a clipping at the time: Walke , 16, blamed his suicide by gunshot over a depression that enveloped him due to New salem School hazing. Utah finally outlawed the practice after his death, according to the Ogden Standard-Examiner January 10, The death was blamed by his mother on hazing, but cited as illness-related by university then-administrators who nonetheless strongly condemned all acts of hazing.
His mother became the first known parent of a hazing victim to become an activist. According to the Milwaukee Journal September 18, Clifford Tweed admitted to being one of those grappling with Aune but denied knowing how the young man suffered a serious spine injury. The Journal noted that the student body voted to end all hazing. A newspaper in Franklin, Indiana, followed his recovery, setback, and death in detail. Looking for Youth Group Activities?
Never make a disloyal statement about your pastor to anyone, especially to the youth in your ministry. Youth who hear you disparaging the senior pastor learn that it is acceptable to disparage ministry staff and volunteers, including yourself. Within hearing of the ministry youth, regularly thank and praise the other pastors and church staff for their dedication and leadership.
Quickly correct any tendency by the youth to complain about the other pastors or staff or their actions. If you believe it is absolutely necessary to make your opinion known, do so only to the pastor himself. Do not attempt to become more popular with the youth than their pastor.
Community Partners (New York State) For partners in this effort, seek out those who offer workshops on relationship building or communication skills, such as local community centers, cultural centers, youth ministries, Planned Parenthood, and violence prevention groups.
I’m seventeen eighteen in a month and about to graduate high school. I just started going to my church’s youth group a year ago and am basically the oldest kid there. A couple of months ago, I started to really like my youth pastor. I don’t think that is that surprising, because he’s an older guy and probably the most godly man I know.
But here’s the thing: I think he might like me, too. He is only a couple of years older than me, so honestly, if he wasn’t my youth pastor, it wouldn’t be that weird. Would it be inappropriate if after I graduate high school and leave the group we were to pursue a relationship? I appreciate you seeking counsel as you may sense the seriousness of the ramifications of the relationship you desire. Please receive this word of caution out of concern not condemnation.
Pastoral Dating Etiquette
Pastoral Dating Etiquette By: Erica Loop Whether you’re the leader of a church or you’re interested in one, pastoral dating isn’t exactly the same as having a relationship with a non-ministry member. As the spiritual head of a church, the pastor has to not only uphold the religious institution’s moral values but also set an example for the parishioners.
It should be considered tragic for a student to go through their Junior and Senior high years to only hear the gospel once or twice in youth group. I’m not saying every youth night turns into an evangelistic opportunity, but I am saying the gospel should be shared deliberately and regularly.
Another example of this is God and The Sun at Fatima. She said that something really amazing is going to happen here at this certain date and they told everybody. Everybody showed up and they all saw it. This book is by Stanley Jaki, who is a physicist and a Catholic priest and a science historian. He goes into pages of interviewing people and documenting all this. This is as close as you can get to a scientific investigation of a miracle. The lab was closed in , but for almost 30 years there was a lab at Princeton and they would investigate paranormal phenomena.
They proved that they could send and receive telepathic messages. Now, most of the scientific community does not know what to do with this stuff. This is a fascinating book.
Sex & Youth Ministry
It was an intriguing conversation, and both men did well. Does your average Christian tween or teen even care how our universe started or where we came from? The debate reminded us of one thing: They do their homework and they have their talking points backed up by their science. Many teens will be graduating from public high schools across North America with the same evolutionary grid to funnel their future thinking through.
Since their elementary years they have been bombarded with the theory of evolution — so by 12th grade their pretty well versed in the ways of Chuck Darwin.

I agree with the abuse of authority comments though. When I was a singles group leader, people on the leadership team were not permitted to date people in the group – even their own age – but it was of course an unwritten rule. This was people between 18 and It was a huge sacrifice for some, but they willing made it to serve others. Even without physical relations, it is an abuse of authority. The people that know about this situation, are responsible to report it.
A pastor is specifically required to tell the authorities. If your allegations are true, the Elders in this church should be rebuked. I agree the parents need to be responsible and that the teen cannot make adult decisions. However, if they are letting her date, I would be willing to concede that a Godly 27 year old might be less dangerous to her than an ungodly 15 year old. My parents did want me to date until I turned

What Would You Do? An Activity for Youth Groups This activity presents students with different social justice-related scenarios, and requires them to work together to create responses. It is best for students who have some experience with Catholic social teaching and specific justice issues, as it involves the application of concepts in a practical way.
The activity is the most effective when the participating students have completed direct service to the poor recently. After working at a soup kitchen, housing rehabilitation group, nursing home or any other agency involved in service to the poor, this activity provides a way to move from doing service to thinking about – and in turn doing – social justice.
Often, when students see poverty firsthand, they become inspired to do something about it.

I have been blogging since , but my ministry started in we just had a 5 year anniversary last may. I praise God that I politely declined. I even tried to look for Baptist Churches in my new home, I then called a Baptist Church in Newark and asked about their church. Come to find out it was a IFB church.
They told me that they read the KJV and solely that. When they said, “we hope to see you here on a Sunday! After my friendship with the girl that I fell in love with was terminated which she initiated and was therefore beyond my control , I asked my college group from a baptist church to pray for me as I was recovering from the loss. Several of the current students as well as half of the alumni interceded, but unfortunately, the other half did not support me.
Their responses ranged from siding with the other party to accusing me of bringing up a prayer request that fell under the category of Gossip as interpreted by them. I went on Sabbatical and thought about what God really wanted of me as an Evangelist. Well, I thought about removing Baptist from my label to see what would happen next.

I am a passionate follower of Jesus Christ and live to make him known to others in all that I am and do. His pursuit of me and my response to follow Him with my life was a dynamic I became aware of early on, and continues to be a daily part of obedience and devotion. Music also held a high value in our home, and I grew up with it playing constantly.
Some of my first musical memories are of us gathered around the old family piano learning to sing parts out of the hymnal. My first formal music lesson was Suzuki violin at age 5. By the time I got to college I possessed a deep love of corporate worship and a commitment to the local church.
