The more original your idea, the tougher it is to sell. The Wire is a drama that… will be, in the strictest sense, a police procedural set in the drug culture of an American rust-belt city, a cops-and-players story that exists within the same vernacular as other television fare. Now, Simon knows how to pitch a TV show. He also knows that he has a new and ambitious take on the genre of police procedural.
He leads with what is familiar.

Pinterest To a frustrated single person, life can often feel like this: And at first glance, research seems to back this up, suggesting that married people are on average happier than single people and much happier than divorced people. Dissatisfied single people should actually consider themselves in a neutral, fairly hopeful position, compared to what their situation could be. All the research on how vastly happiness varies between happy and unhappy marriages makes perfect sense, of course. So how big a deal is it?
Well, start by subtracting your age from So given that this is by far the most important thing in life to get right, how is it possible that so many good, smart, otherwise-logical people end up choosing a life partnership that leaves them dissatisfied and unhappy? Well as it turns out, there are a bunch of factors working against us: People tend to be bad at knowing what they want from a relationship Studies have shown people to be generally bad, when single, at predicting what later turn out to be their actual relationship preferences.
One study found that speed daters questioned about their relationship preferences usually prove themselves wrong just minutes later with what they show to prefer in the actual event. Unfortunately, not many people have a chance to be in more than a few, if any, serious relationships before they make their big decision. No, when it comes to dating, society frowns upon thinking too much about it, instead opting for things like relying on fate, going with your gut, and hoping for the best.
The obvious conclusion to draw here is that outside of serious socialites, everyone looking for a life partner should be doing a lot of online dating, speed dating, and other systems created to broaden the candidate pool in an intelligent way.
“My Boyfriend’s Brother Died. How Can I Be Supportive?”
Share on Facebook This is a throwback to a previous post. The idea is to look for love in the right places. This does not mean that we should serve because we might find love. God is not ultimately honored with that kind of self-serving service. Get involved in a community like that, serve each other, and look for God to open doors for dating. The trajectory of all truly Christian romance ought to be marriage, so it should not surprise us that our dreams and expectations, our hearts, race out ahead of everything else.
My best friend died suddenly (accident) about 2 months after I started dating my ex-boyfriend. We were great together and I know we had a lot of potential, and he was supportive and wonderful, but our relationship didn’t make it.
It sounds simple, but why is it so hard? Generally speaking, if someone practices piano daily for two years, they will eventually become quite competent at it. Yet many people spend most of their lives with one romantic failure after another. Why dating and not, say, skiing? Or even our careers? Why is it that a person can conquer the corporate ladder, become a militant CEO, demanding and receiving the respect and admiration of hundreds of brilliant minds, and then flounder through a simple dinner date with a beautiful stranger?
This is true of you. And some of us have a lot of it. The nature and depth of these traumas imprint themselves onto our unconscious and become the map of how we experience love, intimacy and sex throughout our lives. If mom was over-protective and dad was never around, that will form part of our map for love and intimacy. If we were manipulated or tormented by our siblings and peers, that will imprint itself as part of our self-image.
If mom was an alcoholic and dad was screwing around with other women, it will stay with us.
TV Review: ‘Casual’
This post was originally published in the Inside Podcasting newsletter. Eight years ago I started a podcast called CalacanisCast. My podcast is the best reflection of who I am, probably even better than these email missives because they include me interacting with the startup founders who are trying to change the world.
Candidly, selling ads and living hand-to-mouth is hard, even for an established podcast like This Week in Startups, which sells out for three to six months in advance thanks Luke! Most podcasters would jump at the chance to stop selling ads and start simply collecting a check from an HBO like Bill Maher and John Oliver do, or cash a check from Netflix to produce something pure and unadulterated.
Podcast fans are more than willing to pay, and we see many Patreons hitting thousands and tens of thousands of dollars per month.

Non-pure abjads such as Hebrew and Arabic script and abugidas use diacritics for denoting vowels. Hebrew and Arabic also indicate consonant doubling and change with diacritics; Hebrew and Devanagari use them for foreign sounds. Devanagari and related abugidas also use a diacritical mark called a virama to mark the absence of a vowel. Emoticons are commonly created with diacritic symbols, especially Japanese emoticons on popular imageboards.
Alphabetization or collation[ edit ] Main article: Collation Different languages use different rules to put diacritic characters in alphabetical order. French treats letters with diacritical marks the same as the underlying letter for purposes of ordering and dictionaries. Languages that treat accented letters as variants of the underlying letter usually alphabetize words with such symbols immediately after similar unmarked words.

Hilariously enough the entire time I was reading this article I kept thinking about how it was worth having a tv if only to watch Dexter. 😉 However, it’s now and that show, along with most others, is readily available online on pay sites like netflix or hulu, or through free, but illegal, downloads.
Let’s talk about making money Let’s start by talking about making money, or, your income. There are two types of income — active and passive. Active income is when you do work and are paid for that work. If you work at McDonald’s, you are paid for the hours you work. If you work in an office, you may not clock in and clock out but you are paid based on the work that you do. If you do nothing, you will no longer be paid. Passive income is when the payment is not directly tied to active work. Interest and dividends are prime examples of passive income.
Typical passive income sources are front loaded with active work, for which you are paid a small amount, while the bulk of the income comes later. Don’t mistake passive income with zero work. It’s still work, it’s just that your income is not directly tied to the hours worked. Anyone who owns rental properties knows that it’s considered passive income but there is quite a bit of work involved.

December 10, One of the most frustrating things I had with people is the lack of empathy and dismissive attitude to what happened to me. Was it the worst thing ever? But the past two years had a lot of situations that traumatized me along with people who hurt me deeply. It’s incredibly frustrating that people who haven’t been through what I’ve been through are so dismissive about how my life has been affected by shitty and unreasonable people, multiple hospitalizations, countless “medications” which honestly fucked me up more than it helped.
I haven’t been severely depressed my whole life, I would say I’ve had a mild depression dysthymia as one of my psychiatrists said until in when I went through a lot of emotional trauma. I was then hospitalized and put in a psych ward two years ago on Christmas because I drank a lot I’m sure I was the only person ever in the universe to cope with a depressive episode with a single night of drinking.
At that point I had no suicidal urges, no self harm urges. However that hospitalization experience traumatized me and once they put me on meds for the first time I began to experience suicidal thinking. What was not disclosed to me until a couple weeks ago is how they were putting me on medication for bipolar disorder. They never really informed me they believed I had bipolar and today my psychiatrist has concluded I most definitely do not have bipolar disorder.

About a month and a half ago, I started dating a really great guy. We have incredible chemistry and a lot in common. However, our relationship has already hit a huge hurdle: Adding to that pain is the fact that his family lives across the state, almost six hours away. I have difficulty letting my guard down and being vulnerable, too.
Do you have any suggestions about how to be supportive? Should I give him space to grieve, or should I make myself available to spend time with him whenever he needs it? Should I keep asking if he wants to talk or avoid the subject completely? I want to be there without smothering him. Your guidance would be appreciated. Just being there for him and giving him space to grieve in whatever way he needs or wants to is all you can do.

A diacritic – also diacritical mark, diacritical point, diacritical sign, or accent – is a glyph added to a letter, or basic term derives from the Ancient Greek διακριτικός (diakritikós, “distinguishing”), from διακρίνω (diakrī́nō, “to distinguish”). Diacritic is primarily an adjective, though sometimes used as a noun, whereas diacritical is only ever an.
Photo by Cass Bird. Which is important to me. Once a totem of male-starlet fuckability, over the past few years, he vanished at least by the standards of Hollywood , causing many to wonder—wait, just what happened to Josh Hartnett? But if you remember his puka necklace setting off that fetching neck freckle in The Virgin Suicides, or his self-serious decent military men in Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down, or even his scene after scene of only-wearing-a-towel in Lucky Number Slevin, he was nonetheless imprinted, like any good post-teen crush, on a generation that knew him as the next big thing but never got to see him mature in his roles.
And that passes for characters, often enough. Hartnett plays Ethan Chandler, an American gunslinger who happened to be in London as part of a Wild Bill Hickok—style traveling cowboy show. The series was shot for six months in Dublin, and Hartnett even got to bring his dog along with him. That dog, a pit—border collie mix, is now back in St. Paul, being boarded near his family. And in a way, doing a big movie like that is the only thing going.
You do something a lot of people see.
