This way we can now deliver Ksplice patches via yum repositories, which is a well-established transport mechanism and can utilize already existing infrastructure.

In the case of yum, it's possible to create a local copy of a repository and simply point all clients to obtain their patches from there instead.

Because of GHOST: glibc vulnerability, I need to upgrade glibc but server don't have yum access because not open firewall for it.

Current glibc: glibc-common-2.12-1.149.el6.x86_64 glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6.x86_64 glibc-headers-2.12-1.149.el6.x86_64 glibc-2.12-1.149.el6.x86_64 nscd-2.12-1.149.el6.x86_64 upgrade glibc: glibc-common-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.x86_64glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686glibc-headers-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.x86_64glibc-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.x86_64nscd-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.x86_64rpm -Uvh *rpm but I encountered some kind of dependency error [root]# rpm -Uvh *warning: glibc-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.x86_64.rpm: Header V4 DSA/SHA1 Signature, key ID 192a7d7d: NOKEY error: Failed dependencies: lib Broken 1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 6 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 libnss_2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 libnss_2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 libnss_2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 libnss_2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 libnss_2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 libnss_2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 2 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 libthread_1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 1 is needed by glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6_6.7.i686 glibc = 2.12-1.149.el6 is needed by (installed) glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6.x86_64 glibc-headers = 2.12-1.149.el6 is needed by (installed) glibc-devel-2.12-1.149.el6.x86_64 when i try yum local, looks similar issue.

For some new users this left their machines outdated or without applications they needed. Now Linux is exponentially more user friendly - to the point where so much is automatic and  that today's Linux hardly resembles yesterday's Linux.

Of course, at the time, most everyone trying their hand at Linux knew they were getting into something that would require some work. But even though Linux has evolved into the user-friendly operating system it is, there are still some systems that are fundamentally different than their Windows counterparts.

It's probably worth repeating that Oracle also provides updates (errata) for free from our public-yum server - you can keep your system up to date and fully patched against security threats without the need of purchasing a support subscription.
